Behind the bottle

Three of your “Essential Central” wines – 2 x 2019 Rose, 2 x 2018 Explorer Pinot Noir and 2 x 2016 Surveyor Thomson Pinto Noir…the perfect #pinotcentral combo.

2019 Rose: A vibrant, grapefruit flesh coloured Rosé, with redcurrant, violet and spicy aromatics, Domaine Thomson’s first ever, limited release 2019 Rosé, has been crafted from 100% Clone 6 Pinot Noir. A vibrant, grapefruit flesh coloured Rosé, with redcurrant, violet and spicy aromatics. RRP NZD $35

2018 Explorer Pinot Noir: The grapes that go into our Explorer wine primarily come from the top terrace Moon Block (altitude 295m), 100% estate grown and handpicked. Stylistically, we are trying to place our more youthful vines into this wine as they tend to have a natural fruit driven exuberance which we wish to retain. RRP NZD $30

2016 Surveyor Thomson Pinto Noir: Terroir in a glass – very site specific, sophisticated and unique, our Surveyor Thomson Pinot Noir is our flagship wine. We hold its release date back to provide our customers with a perfectly balanced Pinot Noir hence the older 2016 vintage. This wine has real age, texture and structure and is the perfect food wine. RRP $55 NZD

We love all things Australian. While divided by rugby and cricket, memories of the Gallipoli Campaign, where Aussies and Kiwis fought side by side, unite us.  To celebrate our relationship with our closest neighbours, we  offer discounted case shipping for our neighbours across the Tasman Sea.

Cellar Door

Our Cellar Door is a welcoming spot to try our wines, whether in the heat of summer, or with the comfort of a log fire in winter. As you taste our wines, perhaps take a look at some fascinating paintings and maps by David’s great-great-grandfather, John Turnbull Thomson after whom our enterprise is named. Thomson explored and mapped Central Otago in the 1850’s, as one of the province’s earliest explorers.
